- On August 31, 2024, Western Digital ended support for all Sandisk ibi devices. To learn more, visit https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/51848.
The integrated backup service Mirror It, powered by ElephantDrive, is now available as a fully branded ElephantDrive experience.
ElephantDrive and Western Digital originally partnered to bring the integrated cloud backup service Mirror It to My Cloud Home and ibi devices. All the Mirror It software and storage management was provided by ElephantDrive as a simple and tightly coupled disaster recovery solution. As the program has grown, it's become clear that users will be best served by a more complete offering that provides one cloud backup solution for all their devices. This is what ElephantDrive already offers and Mirror It accounts can be converted in just a few clicks.
If you are a Mirror It subscriber (or in a trial period), your account will be automatically migrated and you will be asked to create a new password with ElephantDrive.
Mirror It and ElephantDrive are supported by parallel software and infrastructure, all of which is based on the same core codebase, but since Mirror It was limited to a specific set of Western Digital devices, users did not need to create a separate login and password - their device credentials were used for authentication. In order to complete the transition to ElephantDrive, all users will need to update their password to create an independent login and password combination associated with ElephantDrive. Detailed instructions on how to update password are available here.
You will have access at no extra cost to the full suite of functionality provided to ElephantDrive cold storage customers including controls and features previously not available to Mirror It.
Mirror It provided a simple daily backup of an entire device, but each subscription was limited to a single specific device. With ElephantDrive, users can have multiple devices in the same account and exercise much more control over the way backups operate. Users can opt for different backup schedules (daily, weekly, monthly, or continuous) and make choices about how many versions to keep and for how long. Plus, users can now browse the content that is backed up and select individual files to download, as opposed to running a full restore of all data. How is cold storage different from regular storage?
- Cold storage is strictly for disaster recovery. Data is stored in a "frozen state" and must be thawed before retrieval.
- Cold storage plans come with the stipulation that data will not be retrieved frequently and immediate access to data is not mandatory. It can take an additional 4 hours to retrieve your data when compared to a normal plan.
